The KASHO’S ENGRAVING collection features individually hand-crafted rings, made using the same traditional techniques once used to engrave the hilt guards of Japanese swords. Each ring expresses the boundless beauty of nature, delicately engraved with seasonal motifs such as petals, leaves and flower buds.

- Spring -

花霞

HANAGASUMI

HANAGASUMI, written with the characters for “flowers” and “mist”, features engravings of classic sakura. As if drifting on a gentle spring breeze, flowers in full bloom, half-opened blossoms and delicate petals float along the band, carrying the hope that you will enjoy a life just as brilliant as an eternal spring.

- Summer -

あいの風

AI NO KAZE

AI NO KAZE is named after a northern wind that brings cool air from the sea in summer, and also plays on the Japanese words for “love” and “indigo”, the color of irises. Capturing the intensity and beauty of an idyllic summer scene, engravings of magnificent irises and their blade-like leaves sweep across the surface of the band. AI NO KAZE conveys the wish that you will enjoy a future as rich as a gorgeous summer day.

秋の紅

AKI NO KURENAI

AKI NO KURENAI, poetically written as the “scarlet of fall”, features engravings of Japan’s famous momiji maples. Layers of overlapping leaves paint the gorgeous scenery of autumn across the ring band, representing the faith that you will live a life as vibrant as the autumn colors.

YUKITSUBAKI

YUKITSUBAKI shares its name with a variety of camellia known for its resilience in even the snowiest of regions. Engravings of interlocking camellia leaves circle the ring band, their subtle texture creating an impression of freshly fallen snow. YUKITSUBAKI expresses the wish for your love to remain strong and true throughout the years.

- Outer Edge -

The rounded outer surface conveys an elegant, delicate feel, while the straight surface gives a sharper, more distinct impression.

- Width Type -

You can choose between the single and layered options. The “single” type puts the seasonal motif front and center, emphasizing the beautiful engraving. Meanwhile, the wider “layered” type creates a strong, distinctive impression and allows you to select a combination of two different precious metals.

The wedding rings in the KASHO’S ENGRAVING collection are characterized by their smooth curves and three-dimensional feel. These are achieved through the traditional techniques of wabori, which have been passed down in Kyoto for many generations. More information on wabori is given below.

What Is Wabori?

Dynamic Engraving and Brilliant Shimmer

Wabori refers to a range of traditional techniques that have been carried down by the artisans of Japan since ages past. Particularly noteworthy are the dynamic engraving and brilliant shimmer of the pieces created by wabori. These techniques have been used over the course of many generations to create Japanese swords and armor, as well as metal ornaments for Shinto and Buddhist places of worship.

NIWAKA’s Top Craftsmen Preserve the Traditional Techniques of Kyoto

The artisans of the KASHO’S ENGRAVING collection continue to practice the traditional wabori metalworking techniques that have been passed down in Japan’s ancient capital for many generations. There are today no more than 10 people in all of Japan who carry on the traditions of wabori. Using the optimal wabori techniques for each of the four KASHO’S ENGRAVING ring designs, each and every ring is individually crafted by the hand of a master artisan.

Because NIWAKA wedding rings are intended for comfortable day-to-day wear, we are very meticulous about the design and surface finish, with an eye on creating the most comfortable feel possible for the wearer. The inner surface of each ring is finished so that it will slide on and off smoothly, while the outer surface is carefully crafted so as to avoid friction with the fingers on either side when worn.
